NATURE AND PROBLEMS OF LANDSCAPE — INDICATIVE INVESTIGATIONS

M. Daneva, K. Michev

(Summary)

The landscape — indicative approach of investigatoin consists of using the physiognomy of easily observed components and features of the landscape which serve as an indicator to recognise those natural components and elements which is almost impossible to analyse directly. From the view point of indicative landscape science the productive-territorial complexes (PTC) are subdivided into two groups: a) with monocomponent physiognomy (orophvsiognomic, phylophysiognomic and others); b) with polycomponent physiognomy (oro — pedophysiognomic, phyto — orophysiognomic, etc.).

The indicative landscape has passed a few stages of development. At first only some plants and relief forms were used as indicators. Later on, whole plant groups and relief types played such a role while at present all physiognomic peculiarities of PTC are looked upon as indicators.

Recently a transition from indicating the static character of different landscape components to indicating them in dynamics has taken place. This tendency has originated a new discipline called landscape indication of processes’.. Nowadays it is urgent to solve the following problems: to indicate the rate and nature of natural processes; to indicate the changes which natural processes undergo in their course of evolution; to work out reference books for indications which will be standards of representative regions.
