FACTORS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE BIRTH RATE IN BULGARIA ON A NATIONAL AND REGIONAL LEVEL

Summary

Various factors and conditions influence the birth rate and therefore they should be analysed objectively so as to suggest concrete measures for its stimulation. Under the socio-economic circumstances in our country precidence is given to the following of them: greater possibilities to create versatile personalities, higher cultural and educational level, employment of more women in the material and non-productive sphere, better welfare, intensive urbanisation, etc. The demographic reaction which recently has undergone changes is also to be viewed. The latest sociological investigations imply that families with two children are quite common. Yet, having in mind the high relative share of women of only one child, it becomes urgent to find ways to encourage the birth of second child.
