ECONOMIC AND GEOGRAPHIC PROBLEMS OF THE TRANSPORT IN THE SETTLEMENT SYSTEMS ALONG THE FRONTIER WITH YOUGOSLAVIA IN NORTH-WESTERN BULGARIA

Summary

On the basis of economic and geographic analysis of the condition of the transport in that frontier territory, the paper offers a concept about the prospective development of the transport infrastructure in accordance with the development of the whole national economic complex.

The problems of the transport fall into three bases groups; regional (settlement system), district, and national.

The long-term development of the transport in the settlement systems along the frontier with Yougoslavia in North-Western Bulgaria is connected with: 1) reconstruction and modernization of the existing road network; 2) construction of new roads, including a railway road from Vidin through Bregovo to Negotin; 3) improving the organization of the transport servicing.
