Summary

The author of this paper has a definite object of investigation, i. e. to show what is the role of the method called ‘latent-structural analysis’ in measuring the spatial differentiation of Sofia City. Being under the authority of the ‘Sofproekt’ Institute for Complex Research and Prognostication, the ‘Genplan’ Office has delivered initial information about 72 territorial units, having been, delineated by its specialists. The data are related to 8 indicators; 1) residential density (Inhabitants per 1 ha); 2) density of building (% of the area within a certain territorial unit); 3) average number of storeys in one building; 4) area free for building (m² per one inhabitant); 5) occupants in one flat (average number); 6) total floor space (m² par one inhabitant); 7) commercial floor space (m² per 100 inhabitants); 8) servicing floor space (m² per 100 inhabitants). Based on the aforesaid 8 indicators the latent-structural analysis is to reveal which of them has greatest effect on the spatial differentiation of Sofia. A conclusuion can be drawn from the applied algorythm and established linear models that essential in this respect are: the residential density; commercial floor space and density of building.
