Summary

The author tries to determine to what extent the main forage areas (lawns meadows, pastures and areas under fodder crops) are used by sheep and cattle breeding which are the most important subsectors of livestock farming in this part of the country. Forage areas are considered to be an essential component of the agricultural potential. It is obvious from the analysis that the mountain regions under investigation are on a lower level in respect with the forage usage as compared to the national average. The same holds for the grass plots. In order to exploit more effectively the agricultural potential it is necessary to increase the heads of cattles and sheep and to carry out measures oriented on raising the quality of the evergreen forage plantations.
