CHARACTERISTICS AND TERRITORIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE TOURIST ACCOMODATION IN THE DISTRICT OF BLAGOEVGRAD

Summary

This article treats one of the basic subsystems of the tourist territorial system — the material base and especially the distribution of tourist accomodation in one of the most favourable with regard to the natural tourist resources district in Bulgaria.

The basic 6 types of tourist accomodation in the 16 counties of the district are characterized by the amount of beds in them, their role in the tourist structure of the county, the number of tourists per bed, the per cent of foreign tourists, and the density of accomodation.

The correlation coefficient shows that the different types of accomodation are very strongly interconnected and their territorial distribution is due to one or several mutual basic factors.

With the help of the latent structure analysis these factors are revealed. At first sight the tourist accomodation tends to situate in territories with favourable natural tourist resources. In fact, the real situation factor turns out to be the existence of the already built tourist material base.         

On the basis of these results recommendations are made about the further development and situation of the tourist accomodation in the district of Blagoevgrad.
