PRESENT SITUATION AND BASIC TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL GEOGRAPHY OF COUNTRIES

The Marxist economic and social geography of countries broke off with the old and deeply reconstructed itself methodologically after 9th of September, 1944 under the influence of the Soviet school. Its subject is determined as a public discipline for the studying, forecasting and management of the territorial systems. Its development is traced in the succession of the last 4 decades and the authors who contributed to this unusually quick development are also shown. Three directions are outlined in it—educative schooling, popularizing and practical schooling, which are stages in its progress. The special social and ideological significance of the educational and popularizing work are emphasized. The performance of this activity are shown. The more modest achievement at the practical direction are pointed out which is due to the ulterly limitted number of people working in this area (Only 3 people working at the University in Sofia.) with many customers.

The aims of this subject are pointed out; the research of different countries; the process of integration; the problems of world economy which explains the dynamic and territorial organization of the systems because of their mutual relationship and interaction; the problems of political geography which under capitalism become decisive factor in the revolutionary situation contributing to radical turn in all capitalist system of the country in question; study and critical analysis of economic region geography in capitalist and developed countries. Two results are garanteed by this approach; to use all positive achievements and to be lead a continual struggle with bulgeous ideology in these publications, which have abondent objects vism and praising capitalist society as an intransient system.

At the end to answer the requerements of the numerous user they suggest to be taken urgent measures because dropping behind in this respect is apparent caused of the limitted resources and organizational failings.

— To be formed a section of region geographers working for the Foreign Office, Trade and Science Institutions and s. o. at the Institute of Geography under the Academy.

— To be increased the number of the already existing groupe of lecturers in Region Geography at first to 6—7 people subsequently will form an independent department.

— It is wisely the programme of studies to be actualize, also to be separated cource of economical and social geography of the world economy.

The efforts put in would justify the means in the economic sphere by increasing the social importance because Region Geography is the most political trend in the system of the geographycal science.
