AN ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE PLACE OF THE ECONOMIC REGION IN THE NATIONAL PRODUCTIVE-TERRITORIAL STRUCTURE BY USING THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

Summary

Without discussing in details the nature of the economic geographical regionalization this article makes an attempt to provide a complex mathematical and statistical assessment of the rank order of the already delineated regions. By a modification of the so-called index of the development level and by applying the methods of the multidimensional statistical analysis to data on the area, population and production in each of the existing eight economic regions in Bulgaria during the period of 1971-1982, the author has determined the importance (M) of these regions in the national productive-territorial structure. The changes of the aforesaid index on a regional scale are analysed against the background of those ones, affecting the entire structure of space economy and they are quantitatively expressed on the basis of the indicator of structural change (D). An example is given of economic geographical analysis of the factors, conditioning the revealed changes.
