POTENTIAL OF TOURISM IN THE SOZOPOL ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT

Summary

The natural environment in the area of Sozopol which is a part of the Bulgarian Black Sea southern region create excellent bioclimatic conditions for sea recreation from June to September.

The development of tourism, however, depends on solving of several problems:

1. Scarce resident population and shortage of staff, while in the same time 2500 daily commuters are working outside the zone.
2. Unsufficient relience on the hinterland regarding transportation, foods and other raw materials supply, storage, etc. including development of alternative types of tourisim and recreation (such as sight-seeing, agrotourism, fishing and hunting).
3. The infrastructure of the zone is inadequately bound to tourism, which turns to be a limiting factor.
4. The ecological conditions need constant monitoring and reasuring measures. Their importance will grow with the expected boom of tourism in the area. All tourist projects should be a subject of ecological expertise.
