GEOMORPHOLOGICAL ESTIMATE OF THE RELIEF IN CONNECTION WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MIHAILOVGRAD DAM

Summary

In the article is given a geomorphological analysis of a number of morphological indicators which characterize the suitability of the valleys of the rivers Ogosta and Barzia for hydrotechnical construction.

A prognosis is made concerning the development of definite genetic types of banks of the future lake. Based on the value of the slope of the banks, their geological composition and expected wave abrasion, three main types of banks are defined: accumulative, abrasive — accumulative, and abrasive. An estimate of the suitability of the bank slope of the future lake is made and two types — unstable (dangerous) slopes and stable (safe) slopes are adopted. 

The watershed basin of the reservoir is divided into regions on the basis of the degree of manifestation of contemporary hill slope processes.

Six regions with different degrees of intensity of manifestation of contemporary morphogenetic processes are outlined.

Advices of different ways for preventing erosion for each region are given.
