THE KOSTENETZ RECREATION MICROREGION

Summаry

The Kostenetz microregion is situated 75—90 km from Sofia on the important railway and road connecting West Europa with the Middle East.

Its small territory possesses varied resort and tourist resources. The most important among them are curative mineral water springs at Moin prohod resort, ,,G. Dimitrov“, Dolna Banya and Pchelin. Especially valuable is the mineral water of Momin prohod with its 560 emans radioactivity. On the basis of these natural advantages, the settlements mentioned above developed as important spa centers used by nationals and some foreign customers. In the same ,,G. Dimitrov“ and D. Banya are known as mountain resorts as their altitude and situation in the Eastern Rila foothills favours greatly the local climat. Also some higher parts of Eastern Rila with the peaks and huts Ibar and Belmeken are included in the microregion as well as a high mountain training center for different sports.

As the recreation seems to be one of the major specialisation of this area its problems and future were considered.
